Sporting Chance

Maurits van Nierop Foundation and Sporting Chance have formed a partnership since 2012 because both organizations have the same vision about Sport and Children.

Sporting Chance realises that sport brings together people from all walks of life and breaks down barriers of generations, cultures, race, gender and income levels. Entrepreneur Brad Bing determined to use sport to improve the lives of children in South Africa. Sporting Chance’s philosophy is to get children off the streets, away from their computer games and TVs (in case they can afford these at all….) and instill in them, a love of sport. With disciplined, structured coaching that strikes a balance between sports, academics, and “play”, Sporting Chance has developed some of South Africa’s most promising sports people.

The approach of Sporting Chance has been two-fold – setting up and running sport coaching and holiday clinics at schools in and around Cape Town and the conceptualisation and co-ordination of youth sport events that include:

Street Cricket
Street Soccer

Every year a few talents are spotted who are given the opportunity to develop further.

The MVNF is currently one of the most important sponsors of the annual Calypso Cricket Festival.

Every year it is a pleasure to give children, who never come to the stand despite living close by, a carefree day with sports, games, sun and sea. As far as the eye can see there are children playing cricket. Every year a few talents are spotted who are given the opportunity to develop further. Temba Bavuma, one of the current players of the South African cricket team was once spotted during the Calypso Cricket Festival that is organised yearly by Sporting Chance. ‘Without the MVNF this festival would no longer be possible.’

Next to that MNVF is also involved with their project Street Sports as of last year. The Street Sports project brings different kind of ball games for boys and girls to different townships.
